Ever wondered what your favorite song would look like? NY artist Martin Wattenberg's "The Shape of Song (2001)" uses MIDI music files to generate graphic representations of the patterns in various types of music. Here's the main web page for The Shape of Song with some beautiful examples. (Oddly, these are all shown in monochrome blue. Kandinsky's influence, I wonder?)
Check out the differences in the pattern qualities among classical music, pop, and folk tunes. (For students in 375, I bet these patterns are significant re: memory & data retrieval.)
